🔥 Fire Plan Australia 🔥

Australia is a vast land in urgent need of national guided management of its varied land areas to reduce the risk of hazardous fires. Climate change is an evolving challenge which needs to be addressed and 2019 has seen the worst fires in recorded history burning across numerous states simultaneously and earlier in the season then ever. Lives, homes, habitats and livelihoods have been lost.

I have put forward a call for ideas on social media about land management specifically to address the need for fire hazard reduction in Australia and will be putting these up as they come. They will be listed as:

  1. Aspects dealing directly with fire hazard reduction across different Aus landscapes.
  2. Environmental changes to cope with climate change.
  3. Government actions required for implementation

Aspects dealing directly with fire hazard reduction across different Aus landscape

  • More and better maintenance of cutlines
  • Building of water reservoirs from coastal to inland areas
  • Community and councils working together to manage risk reduction activities in collaboration with state and federal government. This could be having areas slashed and in inaccessible areas seasonally grazed to reduce blazing risk. Seasonal grazing has a much smaller impact on the environment then year round grazing.

Environmental changes to cope with climate change:

  • Cease deforestation and logging of natural forests: this has a major impact on global warming and severity of bushfires. Trees cause cooling by evaporation so if millions are taken away, this means warmer and drier environments.
  • Sustainable forestry: provides a future for timber workers and is more profitable.
  • No new coal mines/power plants: to be replaced with alternative energy sources.
  • Reduce or ban cotton/almond farming (as these require heavy irrigation) replace with Hemp (uses much less water and provides a great source of Fibre. Note: This could be combined with growing Medicinal Cannabis - proven effective for the treatment of cancer directly, its symptoms and for the treatment of the side effects of Chemo therapy.

Government action:

Policy and planning around the strategies to mitigate fire risk and proper funding and equipment (water bombers eg. Erikksobn Skycranes; water tankers) to the RFS. Responsibility for structured planning, funding for states and councils to carry out land management effectively.
